The Covenant with God

The covenant with God through Jesus Christ is a divine connection founded on grace, sustained by faith, and sealed with His precious blood, who willingly bore the burden of our sins on the cross. God’s perfect plan of redemption was fulfilled through His beloved Son, who gave His life to bring salvation and bring more sons and daughters into the Kingdom of God. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”John 3:16.

God’s grace is a divine blessing, a gift freely given to us, not based on our actions or deeds but on His boundless love and mercy. Ephesians 2:8-9 reaffirms this truth: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Covenant Sealed with Blood

In biblical times, covenants were sealed with the shedding of blood, signifying a solemn commitment. Similarly, the new covenant with God was sealed through the blood of Jesus Christ, symbolizing His atoning sacrifice. In Matthew 26:28, Jesus said, “For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

Because we have been forgiven and are a new creation, we can now walk in righteousness, demonstrating love and spreading the Gospel to the world. “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” (Galatians 5:13)

Faith – The Bridge to God’s Promises

Faith acts as the bridge that connects believers to the promises of God within the covenant. Through faith, we embrace God’s Word, trust His plan, and surrender to His will. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” It is through faith that we activate the covenant promises, paving the way for miracles and blessings.

Believers are privileged to partake in the divine inheritance promised through Jesus Christ. This inheritance encompasses spiritual blessings, physical healing, protection, provision, and eternal life in the presence of God. Psalm 91:1-2 illustrates God’s protective covenant perfectly, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

Covenant Relationship

The covenant establishes a profound relationship between believers and God, which is similar to a loving Father and His children. Through prayer, worship, and studying His Word, we can foster intimacy with our Heavenly Father.

  • In prayer, we draw near to God, aligning our desires with His desires and experiencing His presence in our lives. The more we engage in heartfelt, sincere prayer, the deeper our intimacy with God becomes, strengthening our covenant relationship with Him.
  • Through worship, we express our awe of God’s majesty, acknowledging His sovereignty and giving Him the honour and glory He deserves. As we enter into worship with a humble heart, we invite God’s presence into our lives, deepening our connection and intimacy with Him.
  • When we immerse ourselves in the scriptures, we gain insights into God’s will, enabling us to align our lives with His purpose. As we meditate on His Word, our relationship with God is strengthened, and we grow in wisdom and spiritual understanding.

A covenant relationship with God calls us to live in alignment with His purpose and will for our lives. This involves obedience to His commandments, surrendering our desires and plans to follow His divine guidance. When we willingly submit to God’s will, we show our love and trust in Him, allowing Him to lead us on the path of righteousness and blessing.
