Dear God,
I come before you today because I need your help. I struggle to forgive someone who has hurt me deeply (mention the person’s name when you pray) but I want to forgive him/her and let the past behind. Lord, you know the pain and bitterness that I carry in my heart. Your Word reminds me in Colossians 3:13, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” I want to follow this command, but I find it difficult to let go of my hurt and anger.
Lord, I ask that you would give me the strength and grace to forgive. Help me to see the person who has hurt me through your eyes, and to love them as you love them. Help me to release my bitterness and resentment, and to trust in your justice and mercy.
Please heal the wounds that have been caused by this hurt, and fill my heart with your peace and your love. Help me to move forward with forgiveness and to let go of the burden of unforgiveness that I have been carrying.
Lord, your Word says in Matthew 6:14-15, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” I don’t want to hold on to unforgiveness, and I want to experience the freedom and grace that comes with forgiveness.
Thank you, Lord, for your unconditional love and your forgiveness. Help me to extend that same love and forgiveness to others, even when it’s difficult.
In Jesus’ name, I pray.
Amen.
