Thinking New Thoughts

Category : Christian Blog

One of the most difficult things for us humans to do is to think new thoughts. It is some of the hardest work you will ever do. It demands intentionality, persistence and a willingness to admit we need to change.

One phrase I have found most helpful in life is this one: ‘if you keep doing (or thinking) what you’ve always done (thought) you are only going to get more of what you already have’. This has real importance when we consider the ‘big questions’ – are we really, deeply happy with who we are? If this day were to be our last, would we be proud of the way we journeyed through this life?

Actually what first stirred this thought in me was the message delivered by Michael Curry at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. For many, especially here in England, the departure from what we would normally expect in such a ‘sermon’ was marked.

But he addressed on some of the most important points in life – the most important one of all actually – LOVE. There was no condemnation in his tone, there was the belief in God and in people, and there was passion. And however uncomfortable we might feel about passion in this context, it is central to life.

So why would we feel uncomfortable when a man speaks with passion about the most important subject of all?

Could it be that it’s a little too far out from what we are used to – that is just really stretched our thinking. As we said when we opened – if we want to experience new and better things see in our lives we will have to start thinking new thoughts. This wedding message was a great place to start that exercise.

I believe that God is deeply interested in people and helping us all live great lives. When what we call ‘religion’ assists that cause – wonderful. But when it hinders peoples’ life development and brings about a lifestyle of lack and ritual rather than life and freedom I think we have missed what God is trying to do for the people of this Earth that He loves so much.

Gratitude and Laughter Increase Your Confidence

Category : Christian Blog

I personally think the very first thing everyone should do is to look at themselves and see what they achieved so far before going into despair that they don’t have enough. “When you realize how much people have done for you and how much you have accomplished, you feel more confident”, wrote Susan Murphy in the article “7 Tips To Gain The Confidence You Need To Succeed” for Forbes.

Be Grateful!

Create a list of things you already have or you are good at and be grateful for them. Are you a good driver, are you sociable, are you good at making things? Do you have a child, your parents are alive or a beautiful house? Write them down and read them once a day, ideally in the morning to start your day in a good mood.

Keep a “Gratitude Journal” that you update it daily. Just ask yourself “What Am I Grateful For”? I am sure good things are happening every day but the problem is that most of us we are taking them for granted.

I know I am grateful for my family (I have a loving husband and the best daughter), my friends, my job and business, and the things and opportunities that I receive daily.

What are you grateful for?

All religions and positive-thinking teachings are talking about the Law of Gratitude. It’s a principle and an advice that once done frequently is changing your mind and your heart.

Since I am a Christia, I have been looking at what the Bible says on this matter:

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change” -James 1:17 ESV

“Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” – Ephesians 5:20

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Laugh & Be Happy!

“Laughing is like internal jogging, increasing your confidence and self-esteem,” says the same article.

This is very true. Everyone can use laughter as stress relief. And here is a medical explanation: “When we laugh, our body relaxes and endorphins (natural painkillers) are released into the bloodstream. Laughter doesn’t come easily to everyone, but luckily the body can’t actually distinguish between real and fake laughter. So faking it has the same beneficial effect”.

Bring joy in every situation. If you are upset, think of good things that had happened to you, remember about something that bring you joy.

“Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy.
Then it was said among the nations – ‘The Lord has done great things for them’.
The Lord has done great things for us,  and we are filled with joy.” – Psalm 126:2-3, NIV

Guard your mouth!

I believe that there is power in your words and the way you think and speak will come to pass. What do you think about your business? Are you happy and excited about every new initiative hoping that things will go well or are you scared of the unknown?

If you have hope and always believe that no matter what you do things will work well for your good, this is what you are going to receive. Guard your mouth because your tongue has the power of life or death. It’s not just me who says this, the Bible, which I believe is the Word of God, says it.

“Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them” – Ephesians 4:29

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” – Proverbs 4:23

What’s your purpose in life?

Ask God what is your purpose in life? What do you need to do to bring you satisfaction? What is the next step you should take in your life?

Journal the ideas that come into your mind and filter through your heart what you are supposed to do.

Verse of the Day

“Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.” — Joel 2:23 Listen to chapter Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica. Powered by BibleGateway.com.
