Authority and Power14/06/2017 0 By Carmen Lascu
In the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John there are many examples of how Jesus healed the sick and casted demons. He commanded the disease to go away, cast demons and also commanded healing.
Jesus “called his twelve disciples to him and gave them the authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness” (Matthew 10:1).
He is given you the same authority today. If you are born again of the Spirit, you have the resurrection power in you and received the authority to use it.
His disciples listened to Jesus’ command as we can see in Acts 3:6 when Peter took authority in the name of Jesus and told to a man who was lame from birth “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
As I read this in the Bible I felt that this authority is given to us today too. The Word of God is alive and what applied at that moment also applies today. The authority wasn’t given only to his disciples or to the future church as an institution. In Matthew 28:19 Jesus commanded to his disciples “go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”
What did Jesus command to the disciples and to us today?
“As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give” (Matthew 10:7-8).
Lord Jesus Christ said that He will do whatever you ask in His name, “so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it” (John 14:13-14).
