How To Get an Event Hashtag in Twitter Trends – Social Media Partner CASE STUDY

It was a fantastic event, with more than 130 attendees that learned about digital marketing, seo, paid media, social media, artificial intelligence and many more interesting subjects.


Second position in Twitter Trends


After supporting the event managing their social media for a couple of weeks prior to the event, my last activity of to tweet live from this event. It was a great experience, and what I am proud, most of all, is that myself, with the help of other participants, managed to bring the event’s hashtag #dmsso16 up to Second position in Twitter Trends during the event.

It’s a great result which any Event Manager would like to achieve to increase brand awareness.

In case you don’t know, a trend on Twitter refers to a hashtag-driven topic or a phrase that is immediately popular at a particular time and if you use Twitter on a desktop you will see them on the left side of the screen. On Twitter’s iOS and Android apps, you can find trends by simply tapping on the search icon.

Interested to know how I did it?

  1. Tweeted a lot from two Twitter accounts (@Eventz.Digital and @CarmenLascu) – 54 tweets in total to be precisely, 75% of them in the first 3 hours  All tweets provided valuable information from the presentations and included at least one photo
  2. Retweeted other tweets from the event constantly
  3. Had been backed up by a few other people from the audience who joined the live tweeting, which helped to boost the event hashtag up to second position

Social Media Partner for the event

As a Social Media Partner for this event, I have been involved in managing their social media accounts for a couple of weeks before the event and tweeted live during the event.

  • 10-15 tweets daily about the event, speakers, sessions and partners – on the organiser’s Twitter account
  • 3-5 Facebook posts daily – on the organiser’s Facebook Fan Page
  • Sourced and edited all the photos used for social media and blog posts
  • Edited and uploaded five blog posts on the event’s WordPress blog (including SEO)
  • Tweeted on my Twitter account and shared photos on my Instagram account
  • Sent invitations to LinkedIn groups’ members
  • Tweeted live during the event from organiser’s Twitter account and my personal Twitter account
  • Shared photos and videos from the event on my Instagram account
